The body speaks

in fractions of a second.

We listen.

Photographing dance is learning to read movement before it happens. There's no repeat, no margin for error. You have to anticipate the exact instant the choreography reaches its peak — and shoot before it does.

[ The discipline ]

Photographing dance isn't photographing movement.
It's photographing intention.

Any modern camera can freeze motion at 1/2000 of a second. But freezing motion isn't the same as capturing dance. A technically perfect image of a jump halfway through can say nothing. The same photo taken at the exact instant of its highest point — when the body is fully extended, when the expression matches the music — says everything.

The difference between a good dance photo and a great one is timing. And timing isn't speed: it's anticipation. It's knowing the piece well enough to know when the moment is going to happen before it happens. It's that fraction-of-a-second edge earned by studying, not by shooting in bursts and hoping for luck.

We work without flash in every context. Flash at a dance show freezes the stage lighting the technical team built for the performance, destroys the atmosphere and distracts the dancers mid-performance. Our gear lets us work in the toughest light conditions without sacrificing either the atmosphere or the quality.

Dance & Performance Photography and Video

[ The approach ]

Our way
of working.

Dance photography demands something beyond shutter speed: it demands understanding the piece. Knowing that in this style the movement's climax happens here, that this choreography builds toward that jump, that this dancer has spent three bars preparing the gesture that's about to happen. Without that reading, there's no photo — there's just luck.

At Creadikt we've developed a way of working specifically designed for dance and performance shows. We study the repertoire when possible. We attend the dress rehearsal. We learn the structure of the show before it starts — so that when the moment arrives, we already know exactly where the camera needs to be.

01

Prior study

Before arriving at the venue we study the repertoire. We watch videos, talk with the artistic team, understand the structure of the show. We arrive knowing which moments can't be missed.

02

Dress rehearsal

We use the rehearsal to learn the piece visually. Where the climaxes are, how the dancers move, which angles work with the final lighting. The rehearsal is our preparation, not a delivery.

03

The performance

No flash, no interruptions. We move with the space, read the performance in real time and shoot when the moment arrives — not when it looks like it's about to. The difference lies in that anticipation.

04

Editorial delivery

Edited photo selection, a video piece paced to the music, and material ready for social media, press or archive. All exported in the formats you need.

[ How we work ]

On stage
and off it.

We cover every moment that makes up a show: the dress rehearsal, where the dancers are focused but the pressure of the audience doesn't yet exist — an ideal context for more intimate, technical images. The performance itself, with the final lighting, full costumes and the real energy of the stage. And the backstage moments when the project allows it.

The video of a dance show has to have the rhythm of the music. It's not an aesthetic choice — it's a necessity. An edit that doesn't breathe with the score betrays the piece. What we produce is designed to be watched by someone who wasn't there and, upon watching it, understand why it was worth it.

We produce material for every use a company or school might need. Full video for archive and distribution. Short pieces by number or choreography for social media. Photography for portfolio, press, applications and web. All from a single, well-planned coverage.

We cover shows throughout Catalonia — theaters and auditoriums in Barcelona, alternative spaces, festivals and competitions across the province — and travel to any city in Spain when a project requires it.

[ Frequently asked questions ]

What people ask us before hiring us.

Do you cover the dress rehearsal as well as the performance?

Whenever possible, yes. The dress rehearsal is a very valuable opportunity — it lets us learn the show's structure, identify key moments and test positions before opening night. It's included in the Company Pack and can be added to any coverage on request.

Do you work without flash during the show?

Always. Flash at a dance show destroys the stage lighting the technical team designed for the performance and distracts the dancers. We work with fast, wide-aperture lenses and bodies with strong high-ISO performance to get quality images without altering the show's atmosphere.

Can you cover multi-day shows or festivals with multiple companies?

Yes. For multi-day festivals or seasons we can arrange tailored coverage: a fixed photographer for every performance, or a team covering several shows simultaneously if the festival has multiple venues. We coordinate this in the prior briefing.

Do you produce video per number, or only of the full show?

Both options are available. The edited full-show video is the main product, but we can produce individual pieces per number or choreography so each part of the repertoire has its own material for social media or archive.
